Biological Aerated Filter (BAF) is a new type of high-load submersed three-phase reactor, which has the advantages of both activated sludge technology and biofilm treatment technology.

It has the function of removing SS, COD, BOD, nitrification and denitrification. Its main feature is that it integrates biological oxidation and interception of suspended solids,which cut down the subsequent sedimentation tank and treatment process. In addition, the biological aerated filter process has high volumetric load of organic matter, large water conservancy load, short hydraulic retention time, low capital investment, low energy consumption and operating cost, and the process has good effluent parameters.
At present, the biological aerated filter has gradually developed from a single process to a series of integrated processes.The biological aerated filter has been widely used in the treatment of high-concentration wastewater, such as residential sewage,domestic miscellaneous drainage and food processing wastewater, brewing and papermaking etc.
